KAAPENGINE

Gerald van der Kaap

A pioneering internet artwork that predicted semantic search 28 years before its time. Type words. Find images. But not directly—the search travels through poetry, through Blake and Keats and Wordsworth, to discover photographs.

Created for the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam's “Under Capricorn: The World Over” exhibition. Built with Glimpse, a search engine whose creator would later become VP of Engineering at Google.
